About the Vaccine

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Emergency Use Authorizations (EUA) for three COVID-19 vaccines that have been shown to be safe and effective as determined by data from the manufacturers and findings from large clinical trials. These data demonstrate that the known and potential benefits of this vaccine outweigh the known and potential harms of becoming infected with COVID-19.

There are three authorized vaccines to prevent COVID-19: Janssen (Johnson & Johnson), Moderna and Pfizer. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are a 2-dose series, with the second vaccine needed 21 to 28 days, respectively, after administration of the first dose. The Pfizer vaccine is not for children younger than 12 years of age and the Moderna vaccine is not for children under 18 years of age. The Janssen vaccine is for those 18 and older.
